Delfin - ogólne określenie wodnych ssaków z rzędu waleni, podrzędu zębowców. Obejmuje średniej wielkości walenie charakteryzujące się wydłużonym pyskiem i obecnością melonu. Wyróżnia się delfiny oceaniczne i delfiny słodkowodne. Zamieszkują morza obu półkul. Często przebywają w gromadach od kilku do nawet kilkuset o wyraźnie zaznaczonej hierarchii. Odbywają dalekie wędrówki. Posiadają zdolność do echolokacji.
