A deficiency is generally a lack of something. It may also refer to:
• deficient number, in mathematics, a number n for which s(n) < 2n
• Angular deficiency, in geometry, the difference between a sum of angles and the corresponding sum in a Euclidean plane
• Deficiency (medicine), including various types of malnutrition, as well as genetic diseases caused by deficiencies of endogenously produced proteins.
• A deficiency in construction, an item, or condition that is considered sub-standard, or below minimum expectations
• Genetic deletion, in genetics, is also called a deficiency
• deficiency judgment, in the law of real estate
• A tax deficiency, an amount owed in taxes over and above what has been submitted in payment

Numero difettivo
Un numero difettivo è un numero naturale maggiore della somma dei suoi divisori propri.

Per esempio, 10 è un numero difettivo perché è superiore alla somma dei suoi divisori: (1+2+5)=8.

Tutti i numeri primi e le loro potenze sono numeri difettivi. Tutti i divisori propri dei numeri difettivi e dei numeri perfetti sono a loro volta numeri difettivi.

Gebrekkig getal
In de wiskunde, is een gebrekkig getal of defect getal een getal n waarvoor s(n) < 2n. Hierin is s(n) de som van alle positieve getallen waardoor n te delen is, inclusief n zelf (delerfunctie). De waarde 2n - s(n) wordt het tekort van n genoemd.

Gebrekkige getallen werden geïntroduceerd door Nicomachus' Introductio Arithmetica (circa 100). De eerste paar gebrekkige getallen zijn 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, ... .

Er bestaan oneindig veel even en oneven gebrekkige getallen. Bijvoorbeeld, alle priemgetallen, alle machten van priemgetallen en alle zuivere delers van gebrekkige of perfecte getallen zijn gebrekkig.

Número defectivo
Em matemática, um número defectivo (número defetivo) ou número deficiente é um inteiro n para o qual s(n) < 2n. A função s(n) é a função divisor: a soma de todos os divisores positivos de n, incluindo o próprio n. O valor 2n - s(n) é a defectividade de n.

Um número não defectivo é chamado número abundante.

Exemplo: 15 > 1 + 3 + 5 = 9
