defender (football)

In football, a defender is a player whose position of play is behind the midfielders and whose first and foremost purpose is to provide support to the goalkeeper. Their primary function is to prevent the opposition from scoring a goal.There are four types of defender - centre back, sweeper, full back, and wing back.
