De Goeij’s international career stretches back to 1992. He enjoyed a highly successful few years at Feyenoord, winning the Dutch league, four Dutch cups and appearing in all three major European club competitions. De Goeij signed for Chelsea FC in 1997 linking up with his former Dutch team-mate Ruud Gullit. He has been a solid presence for Chelsea ever since, helping them lift the League Cup, the European Cup-Winners’ Cup and the European Super Cup. He occasionally makes glaring errors and can also struggle with low shots, but he is generally an outstanding shot-stopper and cross-gatherer.
