daunomycin

Daunorubicin or daunomycin (daunomycin cerubidine) is chemotherapy of the anthracycline family that is given as a treatment for some types of cancer. It is most commonly used to treat specific types of leukaemia (acute myeloid leukemia and acute lymphocytic leukemia). It was initially isolated from Streptomyces peucetius.

Daunorubicin (Handelsnamen Daunoblastin®; Hersteller: Pfizer und andere) ist ein Zytostatikum, welches im Rahmen der Kombinationschemotherapie der akuten Leukämien zum Einsatz kommt. Es ist ein rötliches Pulver und gehört zu der Zytostatika-Gruppe der Anthrazykline.

Jest związkiem macierzystym dla innych antybiotyków antracyklinowych. Powoduje śmierć komórki poprzez utworzenie trwałego, niemożliwego do rozplecenia kompleksu z helisą DNA.
