Kryptosystem
Ein Kryptosystem ist eine Vorrichtung oder ein Verfahren, bei dem ein Klartext mithilfe eines Schlüssels in einen Geheimtext umgewandelt wird (Verschlüsselung) und umgekehrt, der Geheimtext wieder in den Klartext rückgewandelt werden kann (Entschlüsselung).

Cryptosystème
Un cryptosystème est un terme utilisé en cryptographie pour désigner un ensemble composé d'algorithmes cryptographiques et de tous les textes en clairs, textes chiffrés et clés possibles (définition de Bruce Schneier). Cette dénomination est toutefois confuse car très souvent associée à la cryptographie asymétrique avec l'utilisation d'une clé privée et d'une clé publique pour les opérations de chiffrement et de déchiffrement. Le RFC 2828 déconseille fortement l'utilisation de ce terme pour remplacer « système cryptographique » :

Kryptosystem
System którego podstawowym celem jest dokonywanie operacji kryptograficznych. Jest to zbiór współdziałających ze sobą szyfrów, procedur ich użycia, protokołów zapisu danych, urządzeń.
W wąskim ujęciu kryptosystemem możemy nazwać kopertę elektroniczną, czyli współdziałanie dwóch szyfrów, bądź dowolny inny zestaw współdziałających szyfrów. W szerszym ujęciu kryptosystem stanowią wszystkie elementy biorące udział w bezpiecznym przekazaniu wiadomości, takie jak np.:
- Szyfry
- Protokoły zapisu danych
- Elementy sprzętowe (komputery, karty kryptograficzne)
- Osprzęt (Czytniki kart, monitory komputerowe).
- Oprogramowanie
- Zabezpieczenie sprzętu i pomieszczeń, przed dostępem fizycznym i emisją ujawniającą.

Sistema criptográfico
De uma forma geral, é considerado sistema criptográfico qualquer sistema que, dada uma mensagem e uma chave, consiga gerar uma nova mensagem ilegível que possa ser transmitida por canais desprotegidos, sem correr o risco de poder ser compreendida por terceiros sem conhecimento da chave. O sistema só será completo se a mensagem cifrada puder ser recuperada, através de, geralmente, essa mesma ou de outra chave.
