Cattle, colloquially referred to as cows (though technically cow refers only to female bovines), are domesticated ungulates, a member of the subfamily Bovinae of the family Bovidae. They are raised as livestock for meat (called beef and veal), dairy products (milk), leather and as draught animals (pulling carts, plows and the like). In some countries, such as India, they are honored in religious ceremonies and revered. It is estimated that there are 1.3 billion head of cattle in the world today.

Copy-on-write (sometimes referred to as "COW") is an optimization strategy used in computer programming. The fundamental idea is that if multiple callers ask for resources which are initially indistinguishable, you can give them pointers to the same resource. This fiction can be maintained until a caller tries to modify its "copy" of the resource, at which point a true private copy is created to prevent the changes becoming visible to everyone else. All of this happens transparently to the callers. The primary advantage is that if a caller never makes any modifications, no private copy need ever be created.

Le Copy-on-write ou copie sur écriture (souvent désigné par son sigle anglais "COW") est une stratégie d'optimisation utilisée en programmation informatique. L'idée fondamentale : si de multiples appelants demandent des ressources initalement impossibles à distinguer, vous pouvez leur donner des pointeurs vers la même ressource. Cette fiction peut être maintenue jusqu'à ce qu'un appelant modifie sa "copie" de la ressource. A ce moment là, une copie privée est créée. Cela évite que le changement soit visible ailleurs. Ceci se produit de manière transparente pour les appelants. L'avantage principal est que si un appelant ne fait jamais de modifications, la copie privée n'est jamais créée.

Das Copy-On-Write-Verfahren ist in der Informatik eine Optimierungsmethode zur Vermeidung überflüssiger Kopien von Daten, beispielsweise zwischen Prozessen unter Unix-artigen Systemen, insbesondere bei oder nach einem fork-Systemaufruf.Wenn der Betriebssystemkern eine Speicherseite im Adressraum eines anderen Prozesses verfügbar machen muss, ist es überflüssig, die Daten tatsächlich zu kopieren, d. h. ein weiteres mal im  Hauptspeicher anzulegen, wenn die Daten nur ausgelesen, aber nicht beschrieben werden. Es reicht, wenn erst einmal die beiden Prozesse auf ein und die selbe Speicherseite zugreifen. Erst wenn einer der beiden Prozesse die Daten zu manipulieren versucht, müssen diese tatsächlich (und dann auch nur teilweise) kopiert werden, da sich die Inhalte der Speicherseiten dann unterscheiden.

Als Hausrind oder schlicht Rind bezeichnet man das zunächst wegen seines Fleisches, später auch wegen seiner Milch und seiner Zugleistung domestizierte Wildrind (Bos primigenius).Die heutigen Hausrinder (taurine oder echte Hausrinder) stammen ursprünglich aus Anatolien und dem Nahen Osten. Die Domestikation zum Hausrind erfolgte bereits im 9. Jahrtausend v. Chr. Als Beleg gilt, dass ab 8300 v. Chr. Rinder zusammen mit Ackerbauern auf das bis dahin rinderlose Zypern gelangten.

COW (ang. krowa) to ezoteryczny język programowania stworzony przez Seana Hebera w 2003 roku. Jest to rozszerzona wersja brainfucka stworzona dla zabawy. COW posiada jedenaście instrukcji (o 3 więcej niż w brainfucku), ale jest kompletny w sensie Turinga. Wszystkie instrukcje to słowa "moo". Między sobą różnią się tylko rozkładem małych i wielkich liter (moo, Moo, mOo, MoO itd.). Wyjątki stanowią instrukcje MMM, OOO oraz oom. Wszystkie inne słowa traktowane są jako komentarze.

Kopiowanie przy zapisie (ang. copy-on-write) — technika optymalizacji używana w programowaniu komputerów, gdy istnieje potrzeba współdzielenia względnie dużej ilości danych (np. między wątkami, procedurami), co do których nie ma pewności, że zostaną zmodyfikowane przez używające je obiekty.Początkowo zamiast rzeczywistego kopiowania pamięci - które jest kosztowne czasowo jak również wymaga dodatkowej pamięci - zwracany jest wskaźnik do oryginalnych danych; kopiowanie jest wykonywane dopiero wtedy, gdy zachodzi potrzeba zmodyfikowania danych.Najważniejszą zaletą jest to, że jeżeli nigdy nie będzie żadnych zmian, nie będzie również potrzeby wykonywania prawdziwej kopii.

Il Bovino (Bos taurus) è una specie di mammifero appartenente alla famiglia dei Bovidi.L'individuo maschio di tale specie è chiamato bovino (plurale: bovini), l'individuo femmina bovina (plurale: bovine).
