In cartography, a contour interval is any space between vertical lines on a topographic map or globe, representing a difference in elevation between the lines.Type of terrain counter interval (m)Very flat 2.5 Normal 5 Hilly 10 Mountains 20 Small contour intervals are used for flat areas; larger intervals are used for mountainous terrain.
