Conté, also known as Conté sticks or crayons, are a drawing medium composed of compressed powdered graphite or charcoal mixed with a wax or clay base, square in cross-section. They were invented in 1795 by Nicolas-Jacques Conté, who created the combination of clay and graphite in response to the shortage of graphite caused by the Napoleonic Wars. Conté crayons had the advantage of being cost-effective to produce, and easy to manufacture in controlled grades of hardness. They are now more commonly made of a variety of fabricated chalk.

Le conte est un récit de faits ou d'aventures imaginaires. Pour les études littéraires, il fait donc partie des genres narratifs. A l'origine, un conte est raconté à l'oral. Depuis la Renaissance il a néanmoins fait l'objet de réécritures, devenant au fil des siècles un genre écrit à part entière. On peut ainsi distinguer deux pratiques du genre littéraire du conte : orale et écrite. Ces deux pratiques diffèrent dans leur fonctionnement (modes de création, de diffusion...) comme dans leur contenu, ce qui amène à les considérer de manière séparée.

Conte to miejscowość i gmina we Francji, w regionie Franche-Comté, w departamencie Jura.Według danych na rok 1990 gminę zamieszkiwało 48 osób, a gęstość zaludnienia wynosiła 14 osób/km² (wśród 1786 gmin  Franche-Comté Conte plasuje się na 695. miejscu pod względem liczby ludności, natomiast pod względem powierzchni na miejscu 928.).

Conte è un titolo nobiliare diffuso in Europa superiore al titolo di visconte ed inferiore a quello di marchese. Deriva dal latino comes, comitis - pl. comites, letteralmente "compagno" (derivato dalla locuzione cum eo = andare con): usato anche nel senso di "accompagnatore", finirà poi per significare "conte". Nell'antica Roma era un nome ufficiale usato dagli accompagnatori di alcuni magistrati.
