Genosse
Als Genosse (von althochdeutsch: ginoz - jemand, der mit einem anderen etwas genießt, Nutznießung hat) bezeichnete man früher einen Kameraden oder Gefährten (Kampfgenosse, Eidesgenosse), also jemanden, mit dem man eine gemeinsame Erfahrung in einem bestimmten Bereich geteilt hatte, der dieselben Ziele hatte und auf den man sich aus diesem Grund verlassen konnte.

Towarzysz
Towarzysz – słowo oznaczające kolegę, przyjaciela lub sojusznika. W miarę upływu czasu od znaczenia ściśle militarnego słowo zyskało nowe znaczenia.
Początki słowa towarzysz należy wiązać z rewolucją francuską (1789-1799), gdy wszystkich ludzi tytułowano obywatel (fr. citoyen(ne)), zamiast zwyczajowego zwracania się z zachowaniem określenia statusu danej osoby.
Określenie towarzysz upowszechniło się wraz z powstaniem i szerzeniem się idei socjalizmu w XIX wieku, gdy wybrano je jako bardziej egalitarny sposób zwracania się do siebie.
