A collective investment scheme is a way of investing money alongside other investors in order to benefit from the inherent advantages of working as part of a group. These advantages include an ability to

• hire a professional investment manager, which theoretically offers the prospects of better returns and/or risk management
• benefit from economies of scale - cost sharing among others
• diversify more than would be feasible for most individual investors which, theoretically, reduces risk.

Fonds (, fr.), Fund (, en.) steht für:

• Investmentfonds, eine Geldsammelstelle für Kapitalanleger
• Rentenfonds; Investmentfonds, der in festverzinsliche Wertpapiere investiert
• Geschlossener Fonds, eine Geldsammelstelle für Kapitalanleger
• Staatsfonds, durch einen Staat aufgelegt

Les fonds de placement sont des organismes de détention collective d'actifs financiers. On les appelle la plupart du temps des fonds d'investissement.

投資信託（とうししんたく）は、多数の投資家が資産運用会社に資金を預け、資産運用会社がその資金を株式や債券、金融派生商品などの金融資産、あるいは不動産などに投資し、その運用で得た利益を投資家に分配する金融商品。運用で損失が出た場合には投資家が負担する。アメリカではミューチャル・ファンド(mutual fund)、イギリスではユニット・トラスト(unit trust)と呼ぶ。投信（とうしん）と略す。

Sijoitusrahasto on osakkeista tai muista arvopapereista koostuva rahasto, jonka omistavat siihen sijoittaneet sijoittajat osuuksiensa suhteessa. Sijoitusrahasto-osuuksien ostamista kutsutaan merkinnäksi ja myymistä lunastukseksi.
