cognition

Cognition is a diffuse term, used in different ways by different disciplines. In psychology, it refers to an information processing view of an individual's psychological functions. Other interpretations of the meaning of cognition link it to the development of concepts; individual minds, groups, organizations, and even larger coalitions of entities, can be modelled as societies which cooperate to form concepts. The autonomous elements of each 'society' would have the opportunity to demonstrate emergent behavior in the face of some crisis or opportunity. Cognition can also be interpreted as "understanding and trying to make sense of the world".

La cognition regroupe les divers processus mentaux allant de l'analyse perceptive de l'environnement à la commande motrice (en passant par la mémorisation, le raisonnement, les émotions, le langage…). Cette définition est souvent étendue au delà du seul cadre de la cognition humaine ou animale et comprend aussi les processus à l'œuvre dans des systèmes artificiels, comme les ordinateurs. Le domaine de recherche scientifique qui étudie la cognition sous ses différentes formes est connu sous le nom de sciences cognitives.

Kognition (lat. cognoscere: „erkennen“) ist die von einem verhaltenssteuernden Subsystem (bei höher entwickelten Lebewesen das Gehirn) zur Verhaltenssteuerung ausgeführte Informationsumgestaltung.Kognition ist ein uneinheitlich verwendeter Begriff, mit dem auf die Informationsverarbeitung von Menschen und anderen Systemen Bezug genommen wird. Oft ist mit „Kognition“ das Denken in einem umfassenden Sinne gemeint. Auch wenn viele kognitive Prozesse im Menschen bewusst sind, haben „Kognition“ und „Bewusstsein“ nicht die gleiche Bedeutung. So können kognitive Prozesse im Menschen unbewusst und dennoch kognitiv sein, ein Beispiel hierfür ist das unbewusste Lernen.

Kognitywistyka - dziedzina nauki zajmującą się zjawiskami dotyczącymi działania umysłu, w szczególności ich modelowaniem. Na jej określenie używane są też pojęcia nauki kognitywne (ang. Cognitive Science), bądź nauki o poznaniu. Kognitywistyka jest nauką multidyscyplinarną, znajduje się na pograniczu dziedzin psychologii poznawczej, neurologii, filozofii umysłu, sztucznej inteligencji oraz lingwistyki (lingwistyka kognitywna).Główne obszary badawcze w obrębie tej dziedziny to reprezentacja wiedzy, język, uczenie się, myślenie, percepcja, świadomość, podejmowanie decyzji oraz inteligencja (inteligencja kognitywna).

Een cognitief proces is een proces dat zich afspeelt in hersenen en is daardoor moeilijk wetenschappelijk te onderbouwen.Een cognitie betekent het vermogen om iets te leren (cognitief: verstandelijk). In eerste instantie was daarom vooral de behaviouristische aanpak binnen de psychologie populair, omdat daar alleen uitgegaan wordt van uiterlijk waarneembare kenmerken en gedragingen. Toch werd de drang om het innerlijke te omschrijven in wetenschappelijke termen steeds groter en kwam uiteindelijk de cognitieve psychologie als school naar voren. Hierin worden cognities zo wetenschappelijk mogelijk omschreven en door middel van experimenten worden theoretiën getest of verworpen (bewijzen worden op deze manier (vrijwel) niet verkregen, enkel worden theorieën alsmaar getoetst en ge-hertoetst).
