clavinet

A clavinet is an electrophonic keyboard instrument, manufactured by the Hohner company. It is essentially an electronically amplified clavichord, analogous to an electric guitar. Its distinctive bright staccato sound has appeared particularly in funk, disco, rock, and reggae songs.Various models were produced over the years, and including the models I, II, L, C, D6, and E7. Most models consist of 60 keys and 60 associated strings, giving it a five-octave range from F0 to E5. Each key uses a small rubber tip to do a "hammer on" (forcefully fret the string) to a guitar-type string when it is pressed, as with a conventional clavichord. The end of each string farthest from the pickups passes through a weave of yarn. When the key is released, the yarn makes the string immediately stop vibrating. This mechanism is completely different from the other Hohner keyboard products, the Cembalet and Pianet, which use the principle of plectra or sticky pads plucking metal reeds.

Ein Clavinet ist ein analoges, elektro-mechanisches Keyboard mit 60 Tasten und wurde von Hohner in Deutschland gebaut. Der Klang ähnelt dem eines Cembalos. Das als "Electronisches Clavichord" entwickelte Clavinet wurde besonders in den 1970er Jahren bei vielen Funk und Rock-Aufnahmen eingesetzt.

È essenzialmente un clavicordo nel quale le vibrazioni delle corde vengono rilevate da dei pick-up, analogo quindi nella produzione del suono alla chitarra elettrica.Il suo brillante suono staccato è stato particolarmente usato nei brani funk, disco e rock. Furono prodotti vari modelli, la maggior parte dei quali presenta 60 tasti e 60 corde associate, una estensione quindi di 5 ottave, dal FA0 al MI5.

Een Clavinet is een toetsinstrument dat behoort tot de snaarinstrumenten. Het werd gemaakt door het Duitse bedrijf Hohner en is in de jaren zestig bedacht door de musicus en ingenieur Ernst Zacharias. In feite is het een versterkt clavichord. De Clavinet werd vooral in funk en rocknummers gebruikt.
