cigale

Cigale is a divertissement-ballet in two acts by Jules Massenet to a scenario by Henri Cain. It was first performed at the Opéra Comique in Paris on February 4, 1904. The story is a retelling of the fable The Grasshopper and the Ant, in this case the grasshopper being a cicada and the ant referred to only as "La Pauvrette" (the poor little one). La Pauvrette, after being taken in, fed and fêted by La Cigale, is rude and heartless when the situation is reversed. Cigale is left to die in the snow at the close of the ballet. The music, recorded by conductor Richard Bonynge and available commercially, is astounding in its charm and vitality, if possibly outmoded for the date of composition. The ballet is rarely, if ever, revived and is not part of the standard ballet repertory.

CYCLADES war ein französisches Versuchsprojekt unter der Leitung von Louis Pouzin, das zum Ziel hatte, ein globales Telekommunikationsnetz zu schaffen, das auf dem Austausch von Datenpaketen beruht. Das Projekt wurde 1971 ins Leben gerufen und 1978 wegen geänderter Prioritäten für Frankreichs Staatshaushalt und vor allem weil man die Gefahr für das staatliche Telekommonopol erkannt hatte, zu Gunsten von Transpac (X.25), dem Backbone von Minitel, aufgegeben. Einige Entwicklungen des CYCLADES-Projekts stellen Schlüsseltechnologien dar, die das heutige Internet erst ermöglicht haben.

Die Inselgruppe der Kykladen (Κυκλάδες) im Ägäischen Meer bildet eine der beiden Präfekturen der griechischen Verwaltungsregion (Periferia) „Südliche Ägäis“. In der Antike wurden die Inseln als Kreis um das heilige Eiland Delos betrachtet, was zur Bezeichnung Kykladen („Ringinseln“) führte, während man die außerhalb dieses Kreises gelegenen Inseln Sporaden („zerstreute Inseln“) nannte. Die Kykladen sind eines der beliebtesten touristischen Reiseziele in Griechenland. Verwaltungssitz sowohl der Präfektur als auch der Periferia ist die Stadt Ermoupoli auf der Insel Syros.
