Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP) est un protocole d'authentification pour PPP à base de challenge, ce qui le rend bien plus sûr que son pendant PAP. Ce protocole est défini dans la RFC 1994.

Abr de Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol. Protocole d'authentification utilisé par l'accès distant Microsoft et Connexions réseau et accès à distance. Grâce à CHAP, un client d'accès distant peut envoyer de manière sûre ses informations d d'authentification à un serveur d'accès distant.
