Cervix
The cervix (from the Latin cervix uteri, meaning "neck of the womb") is the lower, narrow portion of the uterus where it joins with the top end of the vagina. It is cylindrical or conical in shape and protrudes through the upper anterior vaginal wall. Approximately half its length is visible with appropriate medical equipment; the remainder lies above the vagina beyond view. The cervix has an opening to allow sperm and menstrual fluid to move through.

Cervix uteri
Die Cervix uteri (auch einfach als Cervix oder Zervix bezeichnet; aus dem lateinischen Femininum für „Hals“, „Nacken“ und Maskulinum für „Gebärmutter“) ist der Gebärmutterhals, also der untere Teil der Gebärmutter, der die Öffnung zur Scheide, den Muttermund, enthält.

Szyjka macicy
Szyjka macicy (łac. Cervix uteri) - zgrubiała, dolna część mięśniówki macicy. Łączy pochwę z jamą macicy. Dzięki licznym zmarszczeniom sprzyja wydostawaniu się płodu na zewnątrz. Szyjka macicy jest kanałem dla plemników, które je wiedzie z pochwy do macicy.
Szyjka macicy pod wpływem hormonów podlega pewnym zmianom w cyklu miesiączkowym. Zmiany szyjki macicy dostępne są dla kobiety w samobadaniu. Dotykając palcami (badanie palpacyjne) szyjki macicy, może ona sama ocenić zmiany w jej położeniu, konsystencji i stopniu rozwarcia jej zewnętrznego ujścia . W fazie niepłodności szyjka jest twarda i zamknięta. W miarę zbliżania się jajeczkowania ujście otwiera się, odcinek pochwowy szyjki staje się bardziej miękki i unosi się. Po jajeczkowaniu szyjka wraca do stanu z przed owulacji. Badanie szyjki macicy wykorzystuje się w metodach naturalnego planowania rodziny.
