central nervous system

The central nervous system (CNS) represents the largest part of the nervous system, including the brain and the spinal cord. Together with the peripheral nervous system, it has a fundamental role in the control of behavior. The CNS is contained within the dorsal cavity, with the brain within the cranial subcavity, and the spinal cord in the spinal cavity. The CNS is covered by the meninges. The brain is also protected by the skull, and the spinal cord is also protected by the vertebrae.

Ośrodkowy układ nerwowy (OUN), inna nazwa to: centralny układ nerwowy (CUN) – jest to najważniejsza część  układu nerwowego kręgowców. Ośrodkowy układ nerwowy jest chroniony przez kości czaszki oraz kręgosłup. Zbudowany jest z istoty szarej i białej. Częścią składową istoty szarej są komórki nerwowe. Oprócz nich znajdują się włókna nerwowe rdzenne i bezrdzenne, tkanka glejowa i naczynia krwionośne wraz z paskami tkanki łącznej. Skład istoty białej to tkanka glejowa, naczynia włókien nerwowych nie mających osłonki Schwanna.

Il sistema nervoso centrale (SNC) o nevrasse è quella parte del sistema nervoso gerarchizzato dei bilateri che elabora gli stimoli provenienti dal sistema nervoso periferico. Il sistema nervoso centrale può essere diviso in due parti essenziali: l'encefalo e il midollo spinale. Questa divisione ha valore sia per l'uomo e per altri mammiferi, anche se l'uomo ha il cervello più sviluppato a parità di peso corporeo.
