cell differentiation

Cellular differentiation is a concept from developmental biology describing the process by which cells acquire a "type". The morphology of a cell may change dramatically during differentiation, but the genetic material remains the same, with few exceptions. A cell that is able to differentiate into many cell types is known as pluripotent. These cells are called stem cells in animals and meristematic cells in higher plants. A cell that is able to differentiate into all cell types is known as totipotent. In mammals, only the zygote and early embryonic cells are totipotent, while in plants, many differentiated cells can become totipotent with simple laboratory techniques.

La différenciation cellulaire est un concept de biologie du développement décrivant le processus par lequel les cellules se spécialisent en un « type » cellulaire. Die (Zell)-Differenzierung bezeichnet in der Biologie die strukturelle und funktionelle Spezialisierung von Zellen oder Zellverbänden (Geweben) während der Individualentwicklung (Ontogenese). Der umgekehrte Vorgang heißt Dedifferenzierung. Mit zunehmender Spezialisierung von Zellen nimmt gleichzeitig deren Zellteilungsrate ab.

Celdifferentiatie is de overgang van totipotente cellen in een specifiek type cellen. Bij dieren heten de totipotente cellen stamcellen en hebben alleen de eicel en de cellen ontstaan uit de eerste celdelingen het vermogen in alle celtypen te veranderen (totipotentie). Bij planten behouden alle cellen in principe dit vermogen, maar dan is bij de meesten eerst de-differentiatie nodig. Meestal differentiëren alleen de nieuwe cellen die bij het meristeem zijn ontstaan.

Дифференцировка клеток — процесс реализации генетически обусловленной программы формирования специализированного фенотипа клеток, отражающего их способность к тем или иным профильным функциям. Иными словами, фенотип клеток есть результат координированной экспрессии (т. е. согласованной функциональной активности) определенного набора генов. Клетки-родоначальницы определенных линий или клонов называют стволовыми клетками.
