Capital market
A capital market is a market for securities (debt or equity), where business enterprises (companies) and governments can raise long-term funds. It is defined as a market in which money is provided for periods longer than a year, as the raising of short-term funds takes place on other markets (e.g., the money market). The capital market includes the stock market (equity securities) and the bond market (debt). Money markets and capital markets are parts of financial markets. Financial regulators, such as the UK's Financial Services Authority (FSA) or the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), oversee the capital markets in their designated jurisdictions to ensure that investors are protected against fraud, among other duties.

Kapitalmarkt
Der Kapitalmarkt ist der Finanzmarkt für mittel- und langfristige Kapitalbeschaffung und dient den Unternehmen, den Haushalten und dem Staat zur Finanzierung von Investitionen und anderen Ausgaben. Dazu zählt beispielsweise der Markt für langfristige Kredite, bezeichnet als Rentenmarkt und der Aktienmarkt, der Markt für Beteiligungskapital.

Kapitaalmarkt
De kapitaalmarkt is de markt waarop vermogenstitels worden verhandeld met een onbepaalde looptijd, of met looptijden vanaf circa twee jaar. Vermogenstitels met een kortere looptijd worden verhandeld op de geldmarkt.
Typische vermogenstitels die op de kapitaalmarkt worden verhandeld zijn aandelen en obligaties. Het gros van die vermogenstitels zijn effecten, doch de daarvoor kenmerkende eenvoudige verhandelbaarheid is soms duidelijk minder. (Hierbij valt te denken aan participaties in onroerend goed of in niet-beursgenoteerde ondernemingen: wel vermogenstitels, en in gespecialiseerde beleggingsportefeuilles aanwezig, maar niet onder effecten te rangschikken.)

Mercado de capitais
Mercado de capitais é um sistema de distribuição de valores mobiliários que proporciona liquidez aos títulos de emissão de empresas e viabiliza o processo de capitalização. É constituído pelas bolsas de valores, sociedades corretoras e outras instituições financeiras autorizadas.
Os principais títulos negociados (título mobiliário) representam o capital social das empresas, tangibilizado em suas ações ou ainda empréstimos tomados pelas empresas, no mercado, representado por debêntures que são conversíveis em ações, bônus de subscrição e outros papéis comerciais. Esta constituição permite a circulação de capital e custeia o desenvolvimento econômico.
