Gregorian chant is the central tradition of Western plainchant, a form of monophonic liturgical music within Western Christianity that accompanied the celebration of Mass and other ritual services. It is named after Pope Gregory I, Bishop of Rome from 590 to 604, who is traditionally credited for having ordered the simplification and cataloging of music assigned to specific celebrations in the church calendar, although it is known now that he could not have done it as a system for notating music had not been established at the time. The resulting body of music is the first to be notated in a system ancestral to modern musical notation.

Unter dem Gregorianischen Choral versteht man den einstimmigen, unbegleiteten, liturgischen Gesang der Römisch-katholischen Kirche in lateinischer Sprache. Als gesungenes Wort Gottes ist er ein wesentlicher Bestandteil der liturgischen Handlung.

Le chant grégorien est le chant liturgique officiel de l'Église catholique romaine. Issu du chant de l'Eglise de Rome et du chant Messin répandus en Occident à la fin du , il reste pratiqué régulièrement dans certaines églises et communautés religieuses, spécialement dans les cérémonies plus solennelles de la liturgie du rite romain.

Gregoriansk sång är en enstämmig, rytmiskt fri, ursprungligen oackompanjerad liturgisk sång inom den romersk-katolska kyrkan och som uppkallades efter påven Gregorius den store (590-604). Gregoriansk sång är officiell musik inom den katolska kyrkans romerska rit. De centrala delarna av den gregorianska repertoaren fick sin klassiska form i Frankerriket under karolingertiden, dvs. 700-talets andra hälft och 800-talets början; de är baserade på äldre sångtraditioner i både Rom och Frankerriket. Efterbildningar av gregoriansk sång förekommer även på olika moderna språk, bl.a. svenska.

Chorał gregoriański jest to jednogłosowy śpiew liturgiczny w Kościele rzymskokatolickim. Nazwa pochodzi od imienia papieża Grzegorza Wielkiego, który według tradycji zebrał i usystematyzował melodie chorału. Dokonał tego w latach 590-604. Wszystkie melodie zebrane przez Grzegorza Wielkiego zyskały nazwę Antiphonarius (Antyfonarz). Oryginał antyfonarza zaginął już w średniowieczu - w X wieku. Zachowały się jego ręczne odpisy; najstarsza kopia pochodzi z klasztoru benedyktyńskiego w St. Gallen.
