CACTUS (Converted Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope Using Solar-2) is a ground based Air Cherenkov Telescope (ACT) located outside Daggett, California, near Barstow. It was originally a solar power plant called Solar Two, but was converted to an observatory starting in 2001. The first astronomical observations started in the fall of 2004. However, the facility had its last observing runs in November 2005 as funds for observational operations from the National Science Foundation were no longer available. The facility is operated by the University of California, Davis but owned by Southern California Edison.

A cactus (plural: cacti, cactuses, or cactus) is a member of the plant family Cactaceae, within the order Caryophyllales. The word cactus is derived through Latin from the Ancient Greek  (kaktos), a name originally used for a spiny plant whose identity is not certain. Cacti are native to the Americas, ranging from Patagonia in the south to parts of western Canada in the north. There is only one exception, Rhipsalis baccifera, which is also found in Africa and Sri Lanka.

Die Kakteengewächse (Cactaceae) oder kurz Kakteen sind eine Familie der Bedecktsamigen Pflanzen (Magnoliopsida).

Ce sont presque toutes des plantes grasses ou plantes succulentes, c'est-à-dire des plantes xérophytes qui stockent dans leurs tissus des réserves de "suc" pour faire face aux longues périodes de sécheresse.

Kaktusväxter (Cactaceae) är en suckulent växtfamilj, vanligtvis taggiga, fröväxter som mer formellt även benämns kaktusar eller kaktéer. Det finns mellan 1500 och 2000 olika arter av kaktusväxter, även om det direkta antalet varierar beroende på vem som tillfrågas. Vissa fältstudier av dessa växter är mycket svåra, vilket beror på att de är svårtillgängliga samt växer i ogästvänlig terräng. International Cactaceae Systematics Group gör allt för att samordna dessa studier samt strävar efter att få en gemensam klassificering av denna familj.

Kaktusowate (Cactaceae Juss.), zwyczajowo nazywane kaktusami - rodzina sukulentów łodygowych (wieloletnich, zielnych lub częściowo zdrewniałych) należąca do rzędu goździkowców. Rodzina ta ma, w zależności od źródła, od 24 do 220 rodzajów (około 90 z nich jest powszechnie akceptowanych) i między 1500 a 1800 gatunków. Kaktusy występują głównie na obu Amerykach (wyjątkiem jest Rhipsalis baccifera zamieszkujący m.in. w Afryce, na Madagaskarze, Sri Lance i w Ameryce, ale nawet ta roślina została prawdopodobnie przeniesiona przez migrujące ptaki), szczególnie tereny suche, od 0 do 5000 m n.p.m. (Andy). Niektóre z nich to także epifity z lasów deszczowych, żyjące na gałęziach drzew, gdzie mimo dużych opadów woda szybko paruje i prawie cały czas utrzymuje się niska wilgotność powietrza.
