bulimia nervosa
type of eating disorder in which one compulsively overeats (most common among teenage girls)
Bulimia nervosa
Bulimia nervosa, commonly known as
bulimia, is an
eating disorder and
psychological condition in which the subject engages in recurrent
binge eating followed by feelings of guilt, depression, and self-condemnation and intentional purging to compensate for the excessive eating, usually to prevent weight gain (see
anorexia nervosa). Purging can take the form of
vomiting, fasting, inappropriate use of
laxatives,
enemas,
diuretics or other
medication, or excessive physical exercise. The cycle damages bodily organs. Bulimia is common especially among young women of normal or nearly normal weight.

Bulimia nervosa
Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by excessive eating. People who have bulimia will eat an excessive amount of food in a single episode and almost immediately make themselves vomit or use laxatives or diuretics (water pills) to get rid of the food in their bodies. This behavior often is referred to as the "binge/purge" cycle. Like people with anorexia, people with bulimia have an intense fear of gaining weight.
