bow (weapon)

A bow is an ancient weapon that fires arrows powered by the elasticity of the bow. Energy is stored in the limbs of the bow and transformed into rapid motion when the string is released, with the string transferring this force to the arrow. The bow is used for hunting, sport (target shooting), and in historical times was a weapon of war.

L'arc est une arme destinée à lancer des flèches. Il est constitué principalement d'une pièce courbe flexible qui emmagasine et restitue l'énergie comme un ressort, et d'une corde qui permet le bandage de l'arc (tension du « ressort »), puis la transmission de l'impulsion à la flèche lors de la détente.

Der Bogen ist eine Abschußvorrichtung für Pfeile. Seit der jüngeren Altsteinzeit (30.000–10.000 v. Chr.) nutzen Menschen Pfeil und Bogen für die Jagd und auch für kriegerische Auseinandersetzungen. Als älteste Bogendarstellung gilt eine Kalksteinplatte aus der Grotte des Fadets, Departement Vienne, Frankreich aus dem späten Magdalénien. Heute dient der Bogen primär als Sportgerät und gilt nach dem deutschen Waffengesetz nicht als Waffe. Die Bogenjagd auf Schalenwild und das Bogenfischen sind in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland verboten.

Łuk - jedna z najstarszych broni miotających, znana ludzkości od co najmniej 35 tys. lat.Każdy łuk składa się ze sprężystego pręta lub listwy zwanego łęczyskiem, oraz linki łączącej oba końce pręta zwanej cięciwą. Pociskiem jest strzała, czyli cienki i długi pręt, który jest wystrzeliwany z łuku.Łęczyska łuku muszą być wykonane z elastycznego materiału, który jest w stanie ulegać odwracalnemu odkształceniu poprzez ręczne naciągnięcie cięciwy. Cięciwa musi być stosunkowo cienką (ale nie przesadnie) nierozciągliwą linką, na tyle wytrzymałą, aby nie pękać w trakcie naciągania łęczyska. Strzała musi być na tyle długa, aby wystawać choć trochę za łęczysko w momencie pełnego naciągnięcia cięciwy.
