Botany, plant science(s), or plant biology (from Ancient Greek  , "pasture, grass, or fodder" and that from , "to feed or to graze"), a discipline of biology, is the science of plant life. Traditionally, the science included the study of fungi, algae, and viruses.

Die Botanik ( botaniké [epistemé]: Pflanzenkunde, von botáne ‚Weide-, Futterpflanze‘) erforscht als Teilgebiet der Biologie das Reich der Pflanzenwelt; der Begriff Botanik wurde von Dioskurides geprägt. Die Botanik befasst sich mit dem Lebenszyklus, Stoffwechsel, Wachstum und Aufbau der Pflanzen; ferner mit ihren Inhaltsstoffen (siehe Heilkunde), ihrer Ökologie und ihrem wirtschaftlichen Nutzen (siehe Landwirtschaft).

La botanique est la science consacrée à l'étude des végétaux (du grec βοτάνηιϰή, féminin du mot βοτάνηιϰόξ qui signifie « qui concerne les herbes, les plantes »; βοτάνη qui signifie « herbe, plante » veut dire également « fourrage » ou « plante fourragère »). Elle présente plusieurs facettes qui la rattachent aux autres sciences du vivant. La botanique générale recouvre la taxinomie (description des caractères diagnostiques et différentiels), la systématique (dénombrement et classification des taxons dans un certain ordre), la morphologie végétale (décrivant les organes ou parties de la plante), l'histologie végétale, la physiologie végétale, la biogéographie végétale et la pathologie végétale. Certaines disciplines, comme la dendrologie, sont spécialisées sur un sous-ensemble des végétaux.

Botanik (av grekiska βοτανική, "läran om örter"; även fytologi, "läran om växter") är det område inom biologin som studerar växtriket. Botanik omfattar tillväxt, reproduktion, ämnesomsättning, utveckling, sjukdomar, ekologi och evolution av växter.

Botanika (biologia roślin) (gr. botanē = zieleń, owoc, roślina) - dział biologii zajmujący się roślinami. Obejmuje całokształt wiedzy o świecie roślin i związanych z nimi zjawiskach. Szeroki zakres problematyki jest przyczyną wyodrębniania licznych, w różnym stopniu samodzielnych działów, wymagających stosowania swoistych metod i technik badawczych.
