Boot
A boot is a type of footwear and a specific type of shoe. Most boots mainly cover the foot and the ankle and extend up the leg, sometimes as far as the knee or even the hip. Most boots have a heel that is clearly distinguishable from the rest of the sole, even if the two are made of one piece. Traditionally made of leather or rubber, modern boots are made from a variety of materials. Boots are worn both for their functionality – protecting the foot and leg from water, snow, mud or hazards or providing additional ankle support for strenuous activities – and for reasons of style and fashion. High-top athletic shoes are generally not considered boots, even though they do cover the ankle, primarily due to the absence of a distinct heel.

Build–operate–transfer (BOT) or build–own–operate–transfer (BOOT) is a form of project financing, wherein a private entity receives a concession from the private or public sector to finance, design, construct, and operate a facility stated in the concession contract. This enables the project proponent to recover its investment, operating and maintenance expenses in the project.

Boot
Ein Boot ist ein Fahrzeug, das nach dem Archimedischen Prinzip auf dem Wasser, oder als U-Boot exakt ausbalanciert, (ebenfalls nach dem Archimedischen Prinzip), in einer von der Besatzung exakt definierbaren Tiefe im Wasser schwimmt.

Filesystem Hierarchy Standard
Der Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (FHS) ist eine von der Filesystem Hierarchy Standard Group veröffentlichte Richtlinie, die Regeln über die Verzeichnisstruktur unter UNIX-ähnlichen Betriebssystemen festlegt. Durch den Standard, der momentan in der Version 2.3 vorliegt, können sowohl Anwendungsprogramme als auch Benutzer leichter vorhandene Dateien und Verzeichnisse lokalisieren. Dies wird erreicht, indem das Dateisystem in verschiedene Verzeichnis-Bereiche aufgeteilt wird, denen jeweils eigene Anwendungs- oder Aufgabengebiete zugeordnet werden. Die Richtlinie richtet sich hauptsächlich an Softwareentwickler, Betriebssystemhersteller und interessierte Benutzer, die dadurch angeregt werden sollen, FHS-kompatible Pakete zu veröffentlichen.

Stiefel
Der Stiefel (Synonym: Boot, vom englischen Wort für Stiefel) ist eine Schuhgrundform und stellt daher eine Art der Fußbekleidung dar. Gegenüber dem nur bis zur Fußbeuge reichenden Halbschuh ist ein Stiefel ein Schuh, dessen Schaft (fachsprachlich für das Oberteil des Schuhs, in Abgrenzung zum Schuhboden) bis mindestens über den Knöchel reicht. Der Stiefelschaft wird nochmals grob untergliedert in den Fußteil und das sich daran anschließende, nach oben reichende Rohr (allgemeinsprachlich "Schaft" genannt).

L'amorçage, en informatique, désigne la procédure de démarrage d'un ordinateur, qui comporte notamment le chargement du programme initial. On le désigne également par le terme initialisation ou l'anglicisme boot. Un appareil informatique disposant d'une telle procédure de démarrage est dit «amorçable», ou bootable.

Stövlar
Stövel är en fotbeklädnad, som (till skillnad från skor) har höga skaft som täcker en stor del av benet. Den har ursprungligen använts av nyttoskäl för att skydda foten mot kyla och väta samt för att ge "stadga" och stabilitet åt smalbenet. Stöveln har tidvis också förekommit som modeplagg, för män under 1600-, 1700- och 1800-talen samt för kvinnor från 1920-talet och framåt. Sedan 1960-talet har stövelns funktion som modeplagg blivit alltmer omfattande.

Istnieje bardzo wiele rodzajów butów, wykonanych z różnych materiałów, przeznaczonych do określonych celów, różniących się między sobą kształtem, budową, wielkością i technologią wykonania. Często dodatkowym elementem buta jest wysoki lub niski obcas. Podstawowe elementy składowe buta: flek, obcas, podeszwa, podpodeszwa (brandzel), otok, ściółka, przyszwa, podszewka, obłożyna, cholewka, język, zapiętek, sznurowadło.

Program rozruchowy
Program rozruchowy (ang. boot loader) to program uruchamiany jako pierwszy po wykonaniu początkowego programu BIOS-u (lub EFI). Służy do załadowania systemu operacyjnego do pamięci operacyjnej. Wiele ma także funkcje menedżera uruchamiania (pozwala wybrać system do uruchomienia), antywirusowe itp.
Nagłówek (segment startowy) programu rozruchowego w komputerach PC może być umieszczony w pierwszym, 446-bajtowym fragmencie sektora MBR dysku twardego. W systemach DOS/Win32 jest tam zapisany program, który ładuje kolejny program rozruchowy z partycji oznaczonej jako aktywna. W systemach uniksowych pliki dodatkowe programu rozruchowego znajdują się zazwyczaj w katalogu lub partycji montowanej w katalogu /boot.
