The Bonobo (Pan paniscus), until recently usually called the Pygmy Chimpanzee (and less often the Dwarf or Gracile Chimpanzee), is one of the two species making up the chimpanzee genus, Pan. The other species in genus Pan is Pan troglodytes, or the Common Chimpanzee. Although the name "chimpanzee" is sometimes used to refer to both species together, it is usually understood as referring to the Common Chimpanzee.

Le Bonobo (Pan paniscus), mot découlant de la déformation du nom de la ville de Bolobo (République démocratique du Congo), est une espèce de Paninés (genre Pan), membres de la famille des Hominidés et de l'ordre des primates. On l'appelle aussi chimpanzé nain.

Der Bonobo oder Zwergschimpanse (Pan paniscus) ist eine Primatenart aus der Familie der Menschenaffen (Hominidae). Gemeinsam mit dem Gemeinen Schimpansen bildet er die Gattung der Schimpansen (Pan). Von seinem bekannten Verwandten unterscheidet er sich durch sein friedlicheres Verhalten und eine zierlichere Statur. Er ist aber trotz der Bezeichnung „Zwergschimpanse“ annähernd gleich groß.

Il bonobo (Pan paniscus, Schwarz 1929) è una grande scimmia antropomorfa altrimenti nota come scimpanzé pigmeo o scimpanzé nano; in realtà appartiene a una specie diversa da quella dello scimpanzé comune (Pan troglodytes), come testimoniano studi ormai antichi (1929) e più recenti (un'analisi del genoma ha rilevato una differenza del 0,7% tra i patrimoni genetici di questi animali; secondo alcuni autori, la differenza tra i genomi di bonobo e quelli di uomo ammonterebbe al 1,6 ella sequenza).
