Blitz! is a musical by Lionel Bart. The play, described by Steven Suskin as "massive", was set in the East End of London during the Blitz (the aerial bombings during World War II). The story drew on Bart's childhood memories of London's Jewish East End during the Blitz and, like most musicals, centered on a romance between a young couple, in this case a Jewish woman and a Cockney man, although the largest role and main point-of-view character is that of Mrs. Blitztein, the young woman's mother. Steven Suskin describes it as "Abie's Irish Rose set against the burning of Atlanta." Bart himself described the play as "…three human stories inside an epic canvas; the major human conflict—the major plot—personifies the spirit of London and how that spirit developed during the period of the piece."

Ein Blitz ist in der Natur eine Funkenentladung bzw. ein kurzzeitiger Lichtbogen zwischen Wolken oder zwischen Wolken und der Erde, in aller Regel während eines Gewitters in Folge einer elektrostatischen Aufladung der wolkenbildenden Wassertröpfchen bzw. der Regentropfen. Er wird dabei vom Donner begleitet und gehört zu den Elektrometeoren. Dabei werden Ladungen (Elektronen oder Gas-Ionen) zwischen Erde und dem Himmel ausgetauscht, d. h. es fließen elektrische Ströme. Blitze können auch, je nach Polarität der elektrostatischen Aufladung, von der Erde ausgehen.

Blitz (eigene Schreibweise: BLITZ) ist ein ehemaliges Boulevardmagazin beim Fernsehsender Sat.1, welches von montags bis freitags um 18:45 Uhr sowie samstags und sonntags um 18:00 Uhr ausgestrahlt wurde. Es wurde erstmals am 6. Januar 1997 ausgestrahlt. Das Magazin lief montags bis freitags direkt im Anschluss an die Sat.1 News sowie am Wochenende in deren Vorfeld. Nach den umfangreichen Strukturierungsmaßnahmen bei Sat.1 wurde Blitz am 14. Oktober 2007 um 18:00 Uhr das letzte Mal ausgestrahlt. Der Nachfolger des Magazins ist Sat.1 – Das Magazin und übernimmt die gleiche Sendezeiten. Im Jahr 2007 lag der durchschnittliche Jahresmarktanteil von Blitz bei 10,1 Prozent der 14- bis 49-jährigen Zuschauer.
