Bijen (Apidae) zijn een groep van insecten behorend tot de orde vliesvleugeligen (Hymenoptera). Bijen verschillen van de meeste andere (carnivore) vliesvleugeligen door het dieet van nectar en stuifmeel, ook de larven leven hiervan. Biologisch gezien hebben de bijen echter géén eigen groep. Alle soorten bijen behoren tot de superfamilie Apoidea, waartoe ook alle graafwespen behoren.
