Beats per minute (BPM) is a unit typically used as either a measure of tempo in music, or a measure of one's heart rate. A rate of 60 bpm means that one beat will occur every second. One bpm is equal to 1/60 Hz.The BPM tempo of a piece of music is conventionally shown in its score as a metronome mark: This indicates that there should be 120 crochet beats (quarter notes) per minute. In simple time signatures it is conventional to show the tempo in terms of the note duration on the bottom. So a 4/4 would show a crochet (or quarter note), as above, while a 2/2 would show a minim (or half note).

Uderzenia na minutę – częstotliwość, miara tempa utworu muzycznego lub akcji serca, wyznaczająca ilość regularnych uderzeń metronomu lub ćwierćnut przypadających na jedną minutę. W języku angielskim funkcjonuje skrót BPM (Beats Per Minute). Tempo wynoszące 60 BPM oznacza jedno uderzenie na sekundę czyli 1 Hz. 1 BPM oznacza uderzenia z częstotliwością 1/60 Hz.Miara uderzeń na minutę weszła do powszechnego użytku w przemyśle muzyki tanecznej w epoce muzyki disco ze względu na jej użyteczność dla DJ-ów. Utwory o identycznym tempie można bowiem łatwo złączyć (z krótkim płynnym przejściem) tak, by rytmy nałożyły się i jeden utwór płynnie przeszedł w inny.

I battiti per minuto (bpm) sono una unità di misura di frequenza, utilizzata principalmente per l'indicazione metronomica in musica e per la misura della frequenza cardiaca. A volte viene utilizzata impropriamente l'espressione battute per minuto, ma questa è imprecisa in quanto il termine battuta indica la serie metrica compresa tra le stanghette del rigo musicale (misura) e non quindi necessariamente un singolo battito.
