Vårdkase
En vårdkase, (i östra Sverige och i Finland böte), är en signaleld. Den ingick i ett enkelt optiskt signalsystem och bestod av träspiror som ved som placerades på en väl synlig höjd med sikthåll till nästa vårdkase, så att de brinnande kasarna på så sätt bildade en kedja av signaleldar.

Radiofaro
Un radiofaro o radio beacon è un trasmettitore radio omnidirezionale che trasmette continuamente un segnale su una specifica frequenza.
Tuttora utilizzato, era indispensabile soprattutto prima dell'introduzione del GPS, del LORAN e del VOR, per determinare, per mezzo di radioricevitori direzionali, la posizione rispetto ad un punto di riferimento noto, il radiofaro stesso. Ciascun radiofaro è univocamente riconoscibile dal segnale emesso.
