barangay

A barangay (Tagalog: barangay , ), also known by its former name, the barrio, is the smallest local government unit in the Philippines and is the native Filipino term for a village, district or ward.  Municipalities and cities are composed of barangays. In place names barangay is sometimes abbreviated as "Brgy" or "Bgy". As of December 31, 2006 there are a total of 41,995 barangays all over the Philippines.

Un barangay (en filipino : baranggay, prononcé : 'Ba-rang-gai', pouvant être abrévié en "Brgy" ou "Bgy") est l'unité administrative la plus petite aux Philippines. Das Baranggay (Tagalog: Barangay, ), früher unter der Bezeichnung Barrio bekannt, ist die unterste Ebene in der Verwaltungsstruktur auf den Philippinen und ähnelt im Aufbau sehr der eines Dorfes bzw. eines Stadt- oder Ortsteils. Il baranggay (spagnolo: barangay) è la più piccola unità del governo locale nelle Filippine.La parola, talvolta abbreviata nelle forme "Brgy" o "Bgy", in lingua tagalog indica un borgo, una contrada, o un ward ed è stata ripristinata sotto la presidenza Marcos in sostituzione del termine barrio. Municipalità e città filippine sono composte da baranggay. Al 31 dicembre 2006 in tutte le Filippine si contavano un totale di 41.995 baranggay.

Een barangay (Filipijns: baranggay) is de kleinste bestuurlijke eenheid die in de Filipijnen bestaat. Steden en gemeenten in de Filipijnen zijn onderverdeeld in barangays. Een barangay wordt bestuurd door een aantal verkiesbare bestuurders (sangguniang barangay), die weer worden voorgezeten door een 'barangay captain' (punong barangay). In maart 2007 waren er in de Filipijnen 41.994 barangays.
