Banana is the common name for herbaceous plants of the genus Musa, and is also the name given to the fruit of these plants. They are native to the tropical region of Southeast Asia, the Malay Archipelago, and Australia. Today, they are cultivated throughout the Tropics.  [1]Banana plants are of the family Musaceae. They are cultivated primarily for their fruit, and to a lesser extent for the production of fibre and as ornamental plants. Because of their size and structure, banana plants are often mistaken for trees. The main or upright growth is called a pseudostem, which for some species can obtain a height of up to 2–8 m, with  leaves of up to 3.5 m in length. Each pseudostem produces a single bunch of bananas, before dying and being replaced by a new pseudostem.

Banana ist eine Hafenstadt in der Demokratischen Republik Kongo. Sie liegt nördlich der Mündung des Kongos am Atlantischen Ozean. Ungefähr 20 km südlich der Stadt befindet sich die Grenze zu Angola, dahinter das angolanische Soyo. Die Stadt Banana gehört zur Verwaltungseinheit Bas-Congo. Sie zählt zu den ältesten Siedlungsräumen des Kongos.Philatelisten ist Banana vor allem dank der Taubenpostlinie Banana–Boma aus dem Jahre 1905 ein Begriff. In den 1910er Jahren eine eigene Taubenpost zwischen der damaligen Hauptstadt Boma Belgisch-Kongos und der Hafenstadt Banana. Zur damaligen Zeit befand sich das Telegrafennetz des Kongos noch im Aufbau. Die erste Telegrafenlinie Banana – Boma – Léopoldville – Coquilhatville war im Jahre 1905 nur teilweise fertiggestellt. Die belgische Regierung entschloss sich deshalb zur Einrichtung dieser provisorischen Taubenpostlinie, die bis zur Eröffnung der restlichen Teilstücke gegen Ende des Jahrzehnts bestand.

Die Bananen (Musa) sind eine Pflanzengattung in der der Bananengewächse (Musaceae) innerhalb der einkeimblättrigen Pflanzen. In der Gattung gibt es rund 100 Arten. Einige Arten bilden essbare Früchte, von denen diejenigen der Art Musa × paradisiaca zum Teil für die Nahrungsmittelproduktion angebaut werden. Die essbaren Früchte sind reich an diversen Vitaminen (Vitamin A und C), Mineralstoffen (insbes. Phosphor, Eisen, Kalium, Magnesium, Mangan, Kupfer), Zucker und Ballaststoffen. Es gibt - je nach Reifegrad der Frucht - unterschiedliche Empfehlungen bezüglich einer Lagerung von Bananen im Kühlschrank.

I gambi diventano alti 4-8 m, con foglie grandi lunghe 2-3 m.Il termine banana è applicato al frutto prolungato della pianta, che si sviluppa (nella specie e nelle varietà commestibili) in una serie di grappoli. Le banane pesano tipicamente fra 125-200 g, benché questo peso vari considerevolmente fra le differenti cultivar. Il frutto è commestibile per circa l'80%, il restante 20% è buccia; può essere consumato crudo o cotto.
