Bagno (Strafanstalt)
Bagno (ital. „Bad“ spr. banjo, Mz. Bagni; frz. Bagne, Mz. Bagnes) hießen in Italien und Frankreich seit dem 17. Jahrhundert die Strafanstalten, in denen zur Zwangsarbeit Verurteilte ihre Strafe verbüßten. In der Literatur werden meist die französischen Bagnos beschrieben, seltener die italienischen. Es ist in etwa mit dem deutschen Zuchthaus zu vergleichen.

Bagne
Le bagne est un établissement pénitentiaire pour les enfants dont les parents ne voulaient pas, dédié aux travaux forcés. Toutefois, tous les bagnards ne sont pas condamnés aux travaux forcés. Les bagnes coloniaux français sont abolis en 1938.
