backronym

A backronym (or bacronym) is a phrase that is constructed "after the fact" from a previously existing abbreviation, the abbreviation being an initialism or an acronym. The term is sometimes used to refer to the initialism or acronym itself, but usually in those cases, it is a "replacement" backronym, the abbreviation already having an associated phrase. When the backronym phrase becomes more popular than the original, the word becomes an anacronym.

La rétro-acronymie est le fait d'interpréter un mot comme un acronyme, alors que ce n'en est pas un à l'origine, ou alors de donner un nouveau sens à un acronyme existant. MISC un magazine abordant la sécurité informatique tire son nom de l'abréviation de miscellaneous mais se veut vouloir signifier Multi-System & Internet Cookbook. L'interprétation obtenue est nommée rétro-acronyme. Nancy, ville principale de Lorraine connue pour sa place Stanislas et l'histoire de ce roi de Pologne devenu aussi duc de Lorraine, a ainsi exploité l'abréviation patronymique STAN pour son réseau de transport. STAN se veut vouloir signifier Société de Transport Automobile Nancéien.

Der Begriff Backronym [] bezeichnet eine Abkürzung oder speziell ein Akronym, das nachträglich einen neuen Bedeutungsinhalt bekommen hat. Backronym ist dabei ein Kofferwort aus back (englisch für „rückwärts“) und acronym (englisch für Abkürzung oder Akronym).

Een backroniem is een term met een interpretatie als acroniem waarvoor geldt dat die interpretatie pas na introductie van de term zelf is verzonnen.Het woord "backroniem" is een portmanteau van back en acroniem, en ontstond (in de Engelse taal) in 1983, oorspronkelijk geschreven als bacronym.Soms is het originele woord zelf reeds een acroniem. Het backroniem is dan een andere, nieuwe betekenis van dezelfde letters. De nieuwe betekenis wordt gekozen omdat die gemakkelijker te onthouden is, of omdat de oorspronkelijke betekenis de lading niet meer dekte terwijl men het bestaande acroniem niet wilde veranderen.

バクロニム（英：backronym または bacronym）とは元々頭字語（アクロニム）ではない言葉の各文字をとって新たに頭字語としたものである。バクロニムは1983年にback（後）とacronym（頭字語）を組み合わせて新造されたかばん語である。バクロニムの例としてRAM（Random Access Memory）は英単語のramと同じ様に発音される。なお厳密に言うとアクロニムは実際にある単語と同じように発音される場合だけを意味し、それだけでなくアルファベット名で読まれる語を含めた頭字語はイニシャリズム（initialism）と呼ばれる。
