Back closures are best known to be found on clothes for women and girls, and in some cases may be found on other special-purpose clothes for either gender. They may consist of any common type of fastener, such as a zipper or one or more buttons, or a combination thereof. While they were basic on everyday female clothes in the past, their use mostly declined toward the end of the 20th century in favor of clothes that are easier for women to dress themselves in.
