back-rank mate

In chess, a back rank mate is a checkmate delivered by a rook or queen along a back rank (that is, the row on which the pieces (not pawns) stand at the start of the game) in which the mated king is unable to move up the board because the king is blocked by friendly pieces (usually pawns) on the second rank. A typical position is shown to the right.

Das Grundreihenmatt ist eine taktische Wendung im Schachspiel. Eine  Dame oder ein  Turm dringt auf die gegnerische Grundreihe ein und setzt den rochierten  König, welcher hinter einem Wall von Bauern eingeklemmt ist, matt. Man spricht auch von einer Grundreihenschwäche des Gegners.

En ajedrez, el mate del tubo o del pasillo es un jaque mate que se produce cuando una torre o dama amenaza al rey enemigo en la octava fila (aquella en la que comienzan la partida las piezas -no los peones- del contrario). El rey no puede escapar de la amenaza porque se encuentra bloqueado por sus propias piezas, que son, normalmente, peones.
