BACH motif
In music, the BACH motif is the motif, a succession of notes important or characteristic to a piece, B flat, A, C, B natural. In German musical nomenclature, in which the note B natural is written as H and the B flat as B, it forms Johann Sebastian Bach's family name. One of the most frequently occurring examples of a musical cryptogram, the motif has been used by countless composers, especially after the Bach Revival in the first half of the 19th century.

Johann Sebastian Bach
Johann Sebastian Bach (28 July 1750) was a German composer, organist, harpsichordist, violist, and violinist of the Baroque Period. He enriched many established German styles through his skill in counterpoint, harmonic and motivic organisation, and the adaptation of rhythms, forms, and textures from abroad, particularly from Italy and France. Bach wrote much music, which was revered for its intellectual depth, technical command, and artistic beauty. Many of his works are still known today, such as the Brandenburg Concertos, the Mass in B minor, the Well-Tempered Clavier, and his cantatas, chorales, partitas, passions, and organ works.

B-A-C-H
In der abendländischen und abendländisch geprägten Musik ist B-A-C-H eine Folge von Tonbuchstaben, die den Namen „Bach“ vertonen und seit dem 18. Jahrhundert zumeist als Reminiszenz und Hommage an den Komponisten Johann Sebastian Bach verwendet werden. Der Sinn erschließt sich allerdings nur im deutschen Sprachraum, da die betreffenden Töne in anderen Sprachen z. T. anders bezeichnet werden (z. B. dt. B, engl. B flat, frz. si bémol).

Johann Sebastian Bach
Johann Sebastian Bach (* in Eisenach; † 28. Juli 1750 in Leipzig) war ein deutscher Komponist, Orgel- und Klaviervirtuose des Barock. Er ist heute einer der bekanntesten Tonschöpfer, dessen Musik spätere Komponisten wesentlich beeinflusst hat und dessen Werke auch in zahllosen Bearbeitungen präsent sind.

BACH-motiv
BACH-motiv är inom musiken notsekvensen b, a, c och h. Detta fyratonsmotiv har använts av många kompositörer, vanligen som en hyllning till Johann Sebastian Bach. Att man kan tolka notbilden som ett kors, betyder att Bach också uppfattade motivet som en religiös symbol.

Bach - rodzina muzyków i kompozytorów działająca przez sześć pokoleń w Niemczech. Wywodzi się z niej 50 muzyków, a 22 wybitnych i znakomitych kompozytorów. Najwybitniejszym przedstawicielem rodziny jest Johann Sebastian Bach, uważany za jednego z największych kompozytorów i wirtuozów organów w całej historii muzyki. Za wybitnych kompozytorów uznaje się również jego synów:
- Wilhelm Friedemann Bach (1710-1784, tzw. Bach Drezdeński)
- Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714-1788, tzw. Bach Hamburski lub Berliński)
- Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach (1732-1795, tzw. Bach Bückeburski)
- Johann Christian Bach (1735-1782), tzw. Bach Mediolański albo Londyński)

Johann Sebastian Bach
Johann Sebastian Bach (ur. 21 marca 1685 w Eisenach, zm. 28 lipca 1750 w Lipsku) – kompozytor niemiecki muzycznej epoki baroku, organista i nauczyciel muzyki. Był ósmym i ostatnim dzieckiem Johanna Ambrosiusa Bacha, miejskiego muzyka i Marii Elisabeth Lämmerhirt.
Pochodził z rodu liczącego kilkaset lat. Każdy członek tego rodu nosił imię Johann.
Grał na klawesynie i skrzypcach, słynął jako wirtuoz gry na organach. Działał w Weimarze jako skrzypek dworski, potem przebywał w Köthen na stanowisku nadwornego kompozytora i kapelmistrza. Większą część życia spędził jednak w Lipsku, gdzie pracował jako kantor i główny organista kościoła św. Tomasza (od 1723 aż do śmierci). W związku z tą funkcją napisał ponad 200 kantat kościelnych. Uprawiał wszystkie ówczesne gatunki muzyczne poza operą. Był mistrzem w komponowaniu muzyki polifonicznej – doprowadził do doskonałości barokową formę fugi (Das Wohltemperierte Klavier, Kunst der Fuge). Znany z rubasznego humoru, do końca życia uwielbiał zabawy i picie wina. Ostatnie lata życia Bach spędził przede wszystkim na walce z postępującą ślepotą.
