aventail

An aventail or camail is a flexible curtain of chainmail on a helmet, that extends to cover the neck and shoulders. The mail could be removed for cleaning or storage, and attached to the helm through use of a leather cord that was threaded through brass rings at the edge of the helm. Aventails were most commonly seen on bascinets in the 14th century and served as a replacement for a Chainmaille coif. Some aventails were decorated with edging in brass or bronze links, or dagged edges.

Misiurka - rodzaj hełmu pochodzenia wschodniego. Złożona była z dzwonu w formie żelaznej lub miedzianej płaskiej miski, umieszczonej wewnątrz czapeczki pełniącej rolę wyścielenia oraz przymocowanego do dzwonu, otwartego z przodu, kaptura kolczego długości ok. 35 cm. Chronił on kark, ramiona, czoło i uszy. Najstarsze okazy misiurek pochodzą z XIII i XIV w. Był popularną formą hełmu w Turcji i w krajach znajdujących się pod jej panowaniem. Na Kaukazie używano ich aż do II połowy XIX w. Używano ich na Rusi w chanatach tatarskich i na Węgrzech. W Polsce, misiurka używana była głównie przez jazdę typu kozackiego (pancerni, petyhorcy) od XVI do I połowy XVIII wieku.
