Astronom
Astronom lub astrofizyk – naukowiec, którego obszarem badań jest astronomia lub astrofizyka.

Astronomia powstała w starożytnym Babilonie dzięki perskim duchownym zaratusztriańskim, zwanym magami. Ostatnie badania odkryć babilońskich wykazały, że były one bardzo dokładne. Także Egipcjanie kładli duży nacisk na obserwacje nieba.

Religijne interpretacje nieba, poprzez mityczne opowieści bogów, określa się teraz mianem astrologii. Przed rokiem 1750 nie było różnicy między astronomią i astrologią.
