ASCEND
ASCEND is a free, open sourcemathematical modelling system developed at Carnegie Mellon University since the late 1980s. Its main uses have been in the field of chemical process modelling although its capabilities are general. It includes nonlinear algebraic solvers, differential/algebraic equation solvers, nonlinear optimisation and modelling of multi-region 'conditional models'. Its matrix operations are supported by an efficient sparse matrix solver called mtx.

1. the act of rising; motion upward; rise; a mounting upward; as, he made a tedious ascent; the ascent of vapors from the earth. to him with swift ascent he up returned.
2. the way or means by which one ascends.
3. an eminence, hill, or high place.
4. the degree of elevation of an object, or the angle it makes with a horizontal line; inclination; rising grade; as, a road has an ascent of five degrees.
