aRts, which stands for analog Real time synthesizer, is an audio framework that is no longer under development. It is best known for previously being used in KDE (series 2 and 3) to simulate an analog synthesizer.

The arts are a vast subdivision of culture, composed of many endeavors (or artforms) united by their employment of the human creative impulse. The term implies a broader range of disciplines than "art", which in modern usage usually refers only to the visual arts. The other major constituents of the arts are the literary arts, more often called literature – including poetry, novels and short stories, among others – and the performing arts, among them music, dance, theatre, opera and film. Literary arts and creative writing are actually interchangeable terms. These divisions are by no means absolute as there are artforms which combine a visual element with performance (e.g. film) and the written word (e.g. comics). This list is by no means comprehensive, but only meant to introduce the concept of the arts.

aRts, qui signifie analog Real time synthesizer (synthétiseur analogique en temps réel), est une application libre qui simule un synthétiseur analogique sous KDE/Linux. L'un des composants essentiels d'aRts est le serveur de sons qui mixe plusieurs flux sonores en temps réel. Le serveur de sons, qui s'appelle aRtsd (d comme démon) est également utilisé comme le serveur de sons standard pour KDE (toutefois il est indépendant de KDE et peut donc être réutilisé dans d'autres projets). Il s'agit d'un compétiteur direct à JACK Audio Connection Kit, un autre serveur de sons en temps réel.

Un componente chiave di aRts è il server sonoro che mixa differenti fonti sonore in streaming in tempo reale. Il server sonoro chiamato aRtsd (la d sta per demone, inteso come servizio) è il server sonoro predefinito di KDE, tuttavia i due software non dipendono l'uno dall'altro e aRts può essere usato in altri progetti.

Kunst vertrekt vanuit de kunstenaar en is in de eerste plaats de subjectieve expressie van een mens, los van elke objectieve mening of smaak van anderen. Dit in tegenstelling tot cultuur, waarbij juist een beroep wordt gedaan op de betrokkenheid van een publiek. Echter, kunst waarderen is kunst inleven, zodat kunst en cultuur elkaar in een kunstcultuur kunnen ontmoeten. Dit in tegenstelling tot kunst op waarde schatten, wat de bezigheid is van handelaren en bankiers. Kunst drukt de verbeelding of gevoelens van de kunstenaar uit in een scheppende activiteit, met als doel het voortbrengen van een origineel, zintuigelijk waarneembaar (of anderszins voorstelbaar) product met een bepaalde gevoelswaarde of voorstelling. Meestal doet kunst een beroep op het menselijk gevoel voor esthetiek, maar kan daar soms ook op schokkende wijze afstand van doen. Aan de toeschouwer of toehoorder biedt kunst de mogelijkheid om te worden meegenomen uit de dagelijkse realiteit, naar een door die kunstenaar gecreëerde wereld, of anders de mogelijkheid om die dagelijkse realiteit vanuit een ander perspectief te ervaren.
