art council

An arts council is a government or private, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the arts mainly by funding local artists, awarding prizes, and organizing events at home and abroad. They are often arms length from the government to prevent political interference in their decisions.In the United States, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) is the national arts council with each of six regions hosting a regional arts council (RAO) and each state hosting a state arts council and each county within the state hosting a county arts council. Some cities under each county even have their own arts council.
