An approximation is a representation of something that is not exact, but still close enough to be useful. Although approximation is most often applied to numbers, it is also frequently applied to such things as mathematical functions, shapes, and physical laws.

Approximation (v. lat.: proximus, -a, -um = der, die, das Nächste) bezeichnet im mathematischen Sinn eine Näherung.

Bien qu'une approximation soit le plus souvent effectuée sur les nombres, elle est également fréquemment appliquée à des objets tels que des fonctions mathématiques, des formes géométriques, et des lois physiques.

En approximation (av latin proximus: 'närmaste', 'nästföljande') är en inexakt representation av något, men ändå så nära att det är användbart att nyttja. Det används ofta inom matematiken och dess tillämpningar för att beräkna något till ett närmevärde i sådana fall då det inte går att nå exakt med någon känd metod. Men det kan också appliceras på andra saker som t.ex. former; en bit av randen på en tillräckligt stor cirkel kan ibland tillfredsställande approximeras med en rät linje.

Aproksymacja – proces określania rozwiązań przybliżonych na podstawie rozwiązań znanych, które są bliskie rozwiązaniom dokładnym w ściśle sprecyzowanym sensie. Przeważnie aproksymuje byty (np. funkcje) skomplikowane bytami prostszymi.
