About
Approved
A term used to indicate Coast Guard approval of a specific item among the limited number that the Coast Guard has been directed by law to test and "approve." Some of these items are personal flotation devices, fire extinguishers, carburetor backfire flame arresters, distress signals, and certain types of life rafts. The standards program has not required "approval" of any boat or item of associated equipment.
