Under the current classification system there are two families of hominoids:the family Hylobatidae consists of 4 genera and 13 species of gibbons, including the Lar Gibbon and the Siamang, collectively known as the "lesser apes"the family Hominidae consisting of orangutans, gorillas, chimpanzees, and humans, collectively known as the "great apes".

Monkey’s Audio is a file format for audio data compression. Being a lossless compression format, Monkey's Audio does not remove information from the audio stream, as lossy compression formats such as MP3, AAC, and Vorbis do.Like other methods of compression, the main advantage of using Monkey's Audio lies in a reduction of bandwidth and/or a reduction in storage requirements, but, in the case of Monkey's Audio, there is no sacrificing of the integrity of the audio source (as there would be with, for example, MP3). For example, a digital recording (such as a CD) encoded to Monkey's Audio can be decompressed into an identical copy of the audio data. Audio sources encoded to Monkey's Audio are typically reduced to about half of the original size.

Die Menschenartigen (Hominoidea) sind eine Überfamilie innerhalb der Teilordnung der Altweltaffen (Catarrhini) und stellen damit die evolutionäre Schwestergruppe der Hundsaffen (Cercopithecoidea) dar.Menschenartige sind große, schwanzlose Primaten. Ihr Verbreitungsgebiet beschränkt sich (mit Ausnahme des Menschen) auf die tropischen Wälder Afrikas und Südostasiens. Gekennzeichnet sind sie durch einen großen Schädel und lange obere Gliedmaßen.Man unterscheidet die Familien der kleinen Menschenaffen oder Gibbons und die der großen Menschenaffen, zu denen die Orang-Utans, Gorillas, Schimpansen sowie die echten Menschen zählen.

Monkey’s Audio ist ein verlustfreies Audiodatenkompressionsverfahren, das ursprünglich nur für Windows verfügbar war. Inzwischen gibt es auch Versionen für andere Betriebssysteme.Durch verlustfreie Kompression kann die Dateigröße der Musikdatei verkleinert werden, und später ohne jegliche Veränderungen im Vergleich zum Original wiederherstellen. Zur Vermeidung von Fehlern bei der Dekompression enthält die komprimierte Datei mittels Zyklischer Redundanzprüfung erstellte Prüfsummen der Originaldatei, allerdings ist damit nur eine Fehlererkennung, keine Fehlerkorrektur möglich. Die Dateien besitzen die Endung .ape. Als Metadatensystem werden APEv2-Tags verwendet, deren Vorläufer für dieses Format entwickelt wurde.
