apathy

Apathy is a psychological term for a state of indifference — where an individual is unresponsive or "indifferent" to aspects of emotional, social, or physical life. Clinical apathy is considered to be at an elevated level, while a moderate level might be considered  depression, and an extreme level could be diagnosed as a dissociative disorder. The physical aspect of apathy associated with physical deterioration, muscle loss, and lack of energy is called lethargy — which has many  pathological causes as well.

Apathie est un terme médical désignant un état de fatigue physique ou intellectuelle profond (mais le plus souvent réversible) se caractérisant par une indifférence à l'émotion et aux désirs. Ne pas confondre avec l'ataraxie.

Mit Apathie (von griech. Apatheia) bezeichnet man die Teilnahmslosigkeit, Leidenschaftslosigkeit, mangelnde Erregbarkeit und Unempfindlichkeit gegenüber äußeren Reizen.Apathie tritt bei manchen psychischen Krankheiten auf, auch bei Autismus, Anorexia nervosa, Hospitalismus, Depressionen oder Frontalhirnsyndrom und bei der fortgeschrittenen Demenz. Häufig ist die Apathie mit anderen Symptomen verbunden, z. B. Appetitlosigkeit, Traurigkeit, Niedergeschlagenheit, Schlaflosigkeit (oder Schläfrigkeit) und Veränderungen der Urteilskraft.

Towarzyszy mu obniżenie aktywności psychicznej i fizycznej, utrata zainteresowań, zmniejszenie liczby kontaktów społecznych, anhedonia.Apatia jest częstym objawem depresji.
