Antelope are herbivorous mammals of the family Bovidae, often noted for their horns. These animals are spread relatively evenly throughout the various subfamilies of the Bovidae and many are more closely related to cows or goats than to each other. There are many species of antelope, ranging in size from the tiny Royal Antelope to the elands. They typically have a light and elegant frame, slender, graceful limbs, small cloven hoofs, and a short tail. Antelope have powerful hindquarters and, when startled, they run with a peculiar bounding stride that makes them look as though they are bouncing over the terrain like giant rabbits.

Antilope(n) ist die Sammelbezeichnung für mehrere, zum Teil nicht näher miteinander verwandte Arten der Hornträger (Bovidae).Als Antilopen werden in der Regel all die Hornträger bezeichnet, die nicht zu den Rindern, Schafen und Ziegen gehören und sich durch eine schlankere Gestalt auszeichnen. Dies sind die Impalas, die Kuhantilopen, die Gazellenartigen, die Ducker, die Pferdeböcke, die Wasser- und Riedböcke, die Waldböcke und manchmal auch die Böckchen. Die Hirschziegenantilope (Antilope cervicapra) ist eine in Südasien verbreitete Antilope aus der Gruppe der Gazellenartigen. Es handelt sich hierbei um die am häufigsten in Zoos gehaltene Antilope überhaupt. In Freiheit ist sie allerdings weit weniger häufig anzutreffen.

Antylopy - nazwa potoczna grupy kilkudziesięciu gatunków parzystokopytnych ssaków z rodziny krętorogich (pustorożców) oraz jednego gatunku z rodziny widłorogich - antylopa widłoroga (Antilocapra americana). Małe antylopy nazywa się potocznie gazelami. Antylopy w warunkach naturalnych zamieszkują Afrykę, Azję i Amerykę Północną (antylopa widłoroga). Kilka gatunków introdukowano do Ameryki Północnej i Południowej. Często spotykane w ogrodach zoologicznych.
