Animalia
O reino Animalia, Reino Animal ou Reino Metazoa é composto por seres
vivos multicelularas cujas
células formam
tecidos biológicos, com capacidade de responder ao
ambiente que os envolve ou, por outras palavras, pelos animais. Ao contrário das
plantas, os animais são
heterotróficos, ou seja, buscam no meio onde vivem seu alimento, como plantas e outros animais para sobreviverem. A maioria dos animais possui um plano corporal que determina-se à medida que tornam-se
maduros, e, exceto em animais que
metamorfoseiam, esse plano corporal é estabelecido desde cedo em sua
ontogenia quando
embriões. Os
gametas, na maioria dos casos, quando constituem a linhagem germinativa, são produzidos em
órgãos externos, cujas
células, com exceção das
esponjas, não participam da reprodução.
