This article is about a town in Togo. If you were redirected here while looking for information about the ancho pepper, see chile pepper. Aného is a town in southeastern Togo. It is situated 45 km east of the capital Lomé, between the Atlantic Ocean and Lake Togo. Originally a Portuguese slave market, it became the first German capital of Togo in the 1880s. It gradually declined in importance after the capital was transferred to Lomé in 1897, a decline exacerbated by coastal erosion.
