The times before writing belong either to protohistory or to prehistory. Ancient history is the study of the written past from the beginning of human history until the Early Middle Ages. The goal of the modern day critical ancient historian is objectivity. The term classical antiquity is often used to refer to ancient history since the beginning of recorded Greek history in about 776 BC. This coincides roughly with the traditional date of the founding of Rome in 753 BC, the beginning of the history of ancient Rome.

Ancient (englisch: „alt“) ist eine Black-Metal-Band aus Norwegen. Die Band wurde 1992 in Bergen gegründet und besteht aus Aphazel (Gesang), Dhilorz (E-Bass), Jesus Christ! (Keyboard) und Aleister (E-Gitarre). Die Band ist bei Metal Blade Records unter Vertrag.Ancient brachten insgesamt ein Demo, drei EPs, ein Splitalbum, sechs Alben und zwei Alben mit Zusammenstellungen älterer Lieder heraus. Im Jahr 1995 zog der Sänger Aphazel in die USA und stellte dort eine komplett neue Band zusammen, nach drei Jahren dann nach Italien.Ihre erste EP "Det Glemte Riket" veröffentlichten sie unter anderem im Jahre 2000 auf dem Splitalbum "True Kings Of Norway" zusammen mit Emperor, Immortal, Dimmu Borgir und Arcturus.

Chr.) und Mittelalter (ab 6./7. Jahrhundert). Der Begriff Antike – vor allem als klassische Antike – bezeichnet hingegen ausschließlich das griechisch-römische Altertum (je nach zeitlicher Abgrenzung ab 12. oder 8. Jahrhundert v. Chr.). Der umfassendere Begriff „Altertum“ beinhaltet somit auch diese Epoche.

Ancient to norweska grupa muzyczna wykonująca melodyjny black metal. Powstała 1992 roku z inicjatwy muzyków pochodzących z Eidsvaagneset oraz Bergen. Grupa zyskała na popularności dopiero w 1996 roku tuż po wydaniu drugiego studyjnego albumy zatytułowanego The Cainian Chronicle.
